Neytom vs a generic VPS
A raw VPS is flexible and unfinished. Neytom gives you a panel and templates — or root Docker when you want full control.
| Generic VPS | Neytom | |
|---|---|---|
| Day-one UX | SSH + DIY | Panel + one-click stacks |
| Mail / SSL / backups | You assemble | Included on hosting plans |
| Root / Docker | Yes | Cloud VPS & Developer templates |
| Git deploy | DIY CI | App Hosting path |
| Custom mix | Resize later | CPU/RAM/disk builder |
A VPS is a blank machine
Providers sell you CPU, RAM, and a public IP. Everything else — hardening, TLS, mail, upgrades, backup verification — is your product. That is the correct abstraction for platform engineers. It is the wrong default for “I need this WordPress live before the campaign.”
Neytom’s two doors
- Managed hosting — LXC/CT per domain (Micro+); Nano Shared free, templates, SSL, email, ZFS backups. Compare also vs shared hosting.
- Cloud VPS — root and Docker when you intentionally want a machine. Product page: VPS.
- App Hosting — Git-centric deploys: App Hosting.
Ops checklist a generic VPS hides
- Unattended upgrades and reboot windows
- Certificate renewal monitoring
- Offsite backup restore drills
- Outbound mail reputation and SPF/DKIM/DMARC
- Firewall + intrusion noise
If you enjoy that checklist, keep the VPS. If you want it productized, use Neytom hosting and graduate to Cloud VPS only for the services that truly need root.
Sizing without guesswork
Instead of renting a huge VPS “for growth,” start on a right-sized hosting plan or use the custom builder. Move workloads laterally when metrics say so — not when marketing tiers expire.

Compliance and EU posture
A generic VPS in “some EU city” is not automatically a GDPR-ready hosting product. You still design retention, access control, and backup geography. Neytom’s hosting story includes EU infrastructure and productized backups; Cloud VPS still requires you to configure the guest OS responsibly. Pick the abstraction that matches your compliance workload, not only the region dropdown.
FAQ
Do I still get root on Neytom?
Yes on Cloud VPS and Developer templates. Managed hosting stays panel-first with per-domain LXC isolation.
When should I pick a bare VPS instead?
When you already own the full ops stack (config management, mail, backups, monitoring) and do not want a hosting panel.
Is App Hosting a VPS?
No — it is the Git deploy path for apps. Use it when you want push-to-deploy without babysitting the whole OS.
Can I mix managed sites and a VPS?
Yes. Many accounts run isolated hosting for customer sites and Cloud VPS for custom services.
What about custom CPU/RAM?
Use the custom builder for non-standard mixes instead of oversizing a generic VPS “just in case”.
How do I migrate off a VPS?
Snapshot, transfer files/DB, restore on Neytom hosting or Cloud VPS, then cut DNS — see the migration guide.
